Getting Started: Understanding 3d Printing

Before getting into the applications of 3d printing in healthcare, I was keen on understanding the various 3d printing techniques in the market today and the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques. One very important resource that I found on the internet which helped me get into the groove is a MOOC from Deloitte University Press titled "3D Opportunity: Additive Manufacturing for Business Leaders". Being an ametuer in the 3d printing industry, I found it to be very informative. The instructor Mark Cotteleer was fantastic and has articulated the concepts quite well with sufficient examples.

3d Printing will transform the healthcare industry

3d Printing has huge potential to transform the healthcare space. The health care industry that we see today will be completely different 10 years down the line.

The market for the three-dimensional printing of human tissues, organs and other medical products could be worth $1.1 billion by 2020, according to the research firm Frost & Sullivan. Healthcare is expected to represent 16 percent of the total 3D printing industry by then, compared to less than one percent today, said Rhenu Bhuller, senior vice president of healthcare at the company.

I completely believe in the idea that 3d printing will transform the healtcare industry. I intend to keep myself plugged into this industry and technology aswell as play a key role in making this technology accessible and affordable. This blog will capture my ideas, thoughts, perspectives and learnings that I will have in my journey.
